Celebrating the remarkable life of William Sosis, whose journey began in Hoboken, N.J. Bill lived a life rich filled with love, law, and public service.

Bill was a proud alumnus of Hoboken High School, Montclair State University, New Jersey Institute of Technology, and Western Michigan University Cooley Law School, where he formed lifelong friendships that he treasured throughout his life.

Bill met Beth, the love of his life, and their journey together led to their wedding at St. Elizabeth’s in N.J. Their decades together were filled with many hours of deep conversation, love, laughter, and countless wonderful memories. Bill was also blessed with many good friends who became like family.

His passion for computers guided the early years of his career, during which he had much success in implementing software and leading projects around the world. Bill was immensely proud of his accomplishments and of the success his dedication and talent brought to countless people.

In the second chapter of his professional life, Bill dedicated himself to practicing law. Bill was a respected attorney, public defender, and advocate for justice and accountability. He was also a talented writer and recently authored a law review article. Bill was a fighter for the people. He had an impressive background in law, technology, cybersecurity, and public defense, but what always stood out was how willing he was to share what he knew and push others to think more deeply. Bill cared fiercely about fairness and about doing what he believed was right. He focused on injustice, and he had a particular concern for people who were powerless, overlooked, or being pushed around. Becoming a criminal defense attorney for the Office of the Public Defender was his true calling, and his dedication to helping others, sharing knowledge, and using his talents to make a difference was an important part of who he was and the legacy he leaves behind.

Bill lived with passion, innovation, and intensity. He was intellectually curious, passionate about his interests, and endlessly capable of surprises. He loved reading and learning, music, history, politics, mathematics, statistics, computers and software. And he loved being an attorney working to try to make things better.

After a life filled with family, friendships, and passions that touched many people, Bill passed away in August 2026. He will be deeply missed by his family, friends, colleagues, and all those whose lives he touched throughout his life of service. He is survived by his best friend and devoted wife of 25 years, Beth Sosis.

In lieu of flowers, his family would be grateful for any donations made in Bill's memory to organizations and causes that were meaningful to him and that reflected his interests and values.
