Tivadar "Ted" I. Frater

Tivadar I. “Ted” Frater, 65, of Oxford, NJ, passed away peacefully on September 23, 2026, at St. Luke’s Hospital – Warren Campus.

Ted was born on June 18, 1961, in Summit, NJ, to the late Imre and Gizella Frater (nee Varga). He was a proud first-generation American and carried that distinction with tremendous pride throughout his life.

Ted attended Columbia High School and Lincoln Tech and continued his education through the Dover School of Business, where he earned certificates in Computer Networking. Throughout his career, he worked as a Technical Manager and was also an ASE Master Technician, a reflection of both his knowledge and his natural ability to understand how things worked.

A true “grease monkey,” Ted had a lifelong passion for anything with an engine. He especially enjoyed NASCAR and loved his motorcycles. He was happiest when he was tinkering, taking something apart, figuring out how it worked, and putting it back together—often making it better than it was before. There seemed to be very little that Ted could not build, repair, or fix. If something was broken, Ted was the person you wanted nearby.

Ted was also deeply committed to his community. He was a lifetime member of the NRA and proudly served as a Scoutmaster with the Boy Scouts of America, where he had the opportunity to share his knowledge, skills, and guidance with the next generation.

Above all else, Ted was a devoted husband and father. He shared nearly 37 years of marriage with his beloved wife, Mary (GeGe), and together they built a life and family filled with memories that will be treasured forever. He was the loving father of William (Billy) Frater, Jessi Frater, Scott Frater, and Christine Frater with granchildren and great grandchildren. He is also survived by his sisters Zelma, Adrienne, and Claudia, and his brother James (and Liz), as well as many neices and nephews.

Ted will be remembered for his mechanical mind, his willingness to lend a hand, his love of motorcycles and racing, his ability to fix just about anything, and the pride he took in being an American. Most of all, he will be remembered as a husband, father, and friend who leaves behind a lasting impression on all who had the privilege of knowing him.

He was a good man, a man of his word.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to St. Luke’s Cancer Center for Research.

A private Memorial Celebration of Ted’s Life will take place at a later date.

Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Warren Hills Memorial Home.
