Russell S. Earl

Russell S. Earl, 66, of Washington, NJ, passed away peacefully on September 21, 2026.

Russell was born on November 4, 1959, in Newark, NJ, to the late Lawrence and Claudette Earl (Lyola). He was a graduate of Homestead High School, Class of 1977. Russell continued his education at the University of Wisconsin and later attended veterinary school in Minnesota, beginning a lifelong career devoted to caring for animals.

Russell worked as a veterinarian at Long Valley Animal Hospital for many years, retiring in June 2026. His work was much more than a profession—it was a reflection of his genuine love for animals and his desire to help them and the families who cared for them. He was a member of the New Jersey Veterinary Association, the American Veterinary Medical Association (AVMA), and the American Animal Hospital Association (AAHA).

Those who knew Russell will remember him not only for his dedication to his profession, but for the many things that brought him joy throughout his life. He had a deep love for music, with The Beatles holding a special place in his heart. He enjoyed playing guitar and collecting music memorabilia, always finding something new to listen to, learn about, or add to his collection. Russell also had a generous spirit and enjoyed volunteering and helping others whenever he could.

In recent years, Russell discovered a love for golf and enjoyed getting out on the course. But perhaps his greatest joy came from his family. He especially cherished being a grandfather to his beloved granddaughter, Ellisandra, and treasured the time they shared together. His daughters and granddaughter were a source of tremendous pride and happiness, and the memories they made together will remain with them always.

Russell is survived by his three daughters, Anachrista Earl and Samuel Best, Emmalise Earl and her fiancé Vincent Gigante, and Faith Earl and Matthew Bevilacqua; his beloved granddaughter, Ellisandra Best; and his siblings, Cindy and Wes Knowles, Stephanie and Fred Wunderlich, and Larry Earl. As well as his niece Ashley and Andrew Tye, and their son Leo Tye, and his nephew Trevor and Lauren Knowles. 

Russell leaves behind a life filled with family, music, animals, friendship, and service to others. He will be remembered for the love he gave to his family, the compassion he showed toward animals, his passion for music, and the many simple moments that made him who he was. He will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing and loving him.

Family and friends may pay their respects on Thursday, October 1, 2026, from 2:00 to 5:00 p.m. at Warren Hills Memorial Home, 234 West Washington Avenue, Washington, NJ 07882. A service celebrating his life will begin at 5:00 p.m. in the funeral home. Cremation will follow and will be private.
