Listen to Obituary

Richard Russell Bodine, 81, passed away peacefully on June 12, 2026.

Rich was born on the family farm in Butler Park, Washington, New Jersey, on October 20, 1944, to the late Russell and Margaret Vanatta Bodine. He came into this world small but mighty, born prematurely, weighing only 2 pounds 3 ounces, with a mushroom basket lined with cotton for a crib. After this rough start to his life, Rich defied the odds and grew up a strong and hard worker. He was a graduate of Washington High School, Class of 1963, and proudly served his country in the National Guard during the Vietnam War era.

Rich’s first job after graduating was as a delivery man for a local milkman, a job that he loved and to which he dedicated nearly 5 decades of his life. In the early 70’s, he purchased a milk route (his own business!) in the Califon, New Jersey area, with over 200 satisfied customers. Several years later, times changed and home delivery became a thing of the past. Rich went on to work for several large dairies in New Jersey and Florida, and retired from Readington Farms in 2010.

Rich valued staying active and enjoyed golfing with his family, staying physically fit with his home gym, and following high school, college, and professional sports. He was known for his strong work ethic, dedication to his family, and appreciation for life's simple pleasures, and he greatly enjoyed owning and driving his two vintage Jaguar automobiles.

Rich is survived by his son Jeffrey Bodine (Kathleen) and two grandchildren (Daniel and Thomas); his son Gregory Bodine (Stacey) and two grandchildren (Jesse and Hailee); his sisters, Joan Trevorrow and Betty Pulsinelli; and his former wife, Susan Olesen.

In addition to his parents, Richard was preceded in death by his son, Russell Bodine, and three siblings, Carl Parr, Ellen Coleman, and Donald Bodine.

Family and friends may pay their respects on Saturday, June 27, 2026, from 11:00 AM to 12:00 PM at Warren Hills Memorial Home, 234 W. Washington Ave., Washington, NJ 07882. A memorial service will follow at 12:00 PM at the funeral home.
