Milton Jarrell “Jake” Unangst, 71, a lifelong resident of Washington, NJ passed away peacefully on August 6, 2020, at his home surrounded by his loving family. Jake was born on May 24, 1949, at home in the Brass Castle section of Washington to the late Stewart and Jo Unangst. Jake attended Washington High School then went to work with his Dad in the family business. Jake owned and operated Stew's Auto Body, Towing and Recovery in Washington, NJ. Over the years Jake has helped and assisted many families, Police, Fire Departments, and Rescue Squads in the Warren and Hunterdon County communities. For many he was only a phone call away, Jake was always there when someone needed help no matter what time of the day or night. Jake and his loving wife Marcie celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary on July 25. They enjoyed spending their extra time on Lake Norman in NC. Jake was a NASCAR fan and was a fanatical fan of the Earnhardt family. He also enjoyed racing at Island Dragway in his youth. Jake was a loving caring person who enjoyed spending time with his family and friends. More than anything Jake cherished his grandchildren. He will be sadly missed by all who knew him. In addition to his loving wife Marcie, Jake is survived by his daughters, Gayle Swick and her husband Russ; Gretchen Winter; Janelle Unangst and her significant other Larry and Jennifer Unangst and fiancé Barry. Sisters, Joyce Mowder, Claire McIntyre, Evelyn Hanson and her husband Otto, Cheryl Leggio and her husband Carmen, Gwen Burdge and her husband Dave and Kimberly Merluzzi and her husband Pete. A brother, Todd Unangst and his wife Diane. A sister In-law, Jackie Unangst; Grandchildren, Jarrell and his wife Megan, Jeremy and his significant other Alex, Justin, Taylor and her fiancé Clarke, Hailey, Lexi, Hayden, Rachel and Maddy; A great-grandson, Colt. In addition to his parents, Jake was preceded in death by his sisters, Kathy Unangst and Jill George and a brother, Stewart “Bud” Unangst. Family and friends may pay their respects on Tuesday, August 11, 2020, from 4-8 PM at the Warren Hills Memorial Home. 234 W. Washington Ave. Washington NJ 07882 and again on Wednesday, August 12, 2020, from 10-11 AM at the funeral home. Graveside services will be celebrated on Wednesday at 12:00 PM at the Stewartsville Lutheran Cemetery on Richline Rd in Stewartsville, NJ.
