Michael Papathanassiou

PAPATHANASSIOU Michael, age 68, on August 19, 2009, passed away peacefully at home in Washington. He was previously from Emerson and Dumont, NJ. Born in Langa, Greece on September 17, 1940, he was the son of the late Andrew and Heidi Papathanassiou.Mike came to the US alone in his early 20s from Greece. He taught himself to speak English. He started his own business in the garment district of New York. He owned and operated Mike Pappas Furs Inc in NY, NY. He retired early in 1995 after 35 years to spend time with his family. He especially enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren.Mike was educated in Greece. He was Greek Orthodox. He was a member of the free masons in Bergen County He is survived by a son, Andrew Papathanassiou of Charlotte, NC; two daughters, Heidi Cianfrocca and her husband Jeff of Long Valley, NJ, Dina Papathanassiou of Brooklyn, NY; two brothers, Bill and Alex Papathanassiou both of Greece; four grandchildren, Michael, William, Jeffery and Jillian; many nieces, nephews and Godchildren.
