Mary Ellen Hackett, 84 of Washington Twp., NJ passed away peacefully on December 2, 2021 at the Karen Ann Quinlan Home for Hospice in Fredon, NJ Mary Ellen was born on June 11, 1937 in Newton, NJ to the late Harmon and Anna Hoffman (nee Mehawk). Mary Ellen was a graduate of Washington High School Class of 1955. She married the love of her life, George Hackett in 1957. Together they celebrated 64 years of marriage. Mary Ellen was employed as a cashier for Shop-Rite for 28 years until her retirement in 1998. She was a long-time member of Trinity Methodist Church, Hackettstown. Mary Ellen was a member of the Eastern Star Stewart Chapter Number 166 in High Bridge, NJ. She was a member of many different singing organizations and choirs, including, the Hunterdon County Sweet Adelines, where she sang in a large competition in Philadelphia, PA, The Warren County Singers, also she sung in her church choir for many years. Mary Ellen was most proud of the Solo she performed at the Changewater Methodist Church. She was a member of the Washington Township Fire Department's Ladies Auxiliary. She most enjoyed listening to Elvis, especially his gospel music. Mary Ellen enjoyed crafting, making holiday wreaths, and sewing. In her down time, she enjoyed completing word searches, reading, and gardening. She is survived by her loving husband, George Hackett, their children; David Hackett (Vivian) of Hardy, VA, Cathleen Brewster (Tim) of Gainesville, FL, and Suzanne Hackett (Mark Paul) of Chapel Hill, NC. Mary Ellen is also survived by her grandchildren; Eric Brewster (Haley), Clint Brewster, Nolan Brewster, Morgan Paul, Jackson Paul, and Andrew Paul, and a great- granddaughter; Ainsley Brewster (Eric and Haley). In addition to her parents, Mary Ellen is predeceased by her sister Carol Hoffman Rapsis. Family and friends can gather on Monday, December 20, 2021 from 11:00 AM to 12:00 PM at Warren Hills Memorial Home, 234 W. Washington Ave., Washington, NJ 07882. A memorial service will be held at 12:00 PM inside the funeral home. Burial at Musconetcong Cemetery will be held privately. In lieu of flowers donations can be made in Mary Ellen's name to Trinity United Methodist Church, 213 Main Street, Hackettstown, NJ 07840.
