Marenann "Sissy" H. Dowhanik, born February 15, 1944, to the late Raymond and Helen Peters in Phillipsburg, NJ and grew up in Asbury, NJ. She passed away peacefully surrounded by her loving family on January 23, 2025, at Hackettstown Medical Center. She was 80 years old.
Marenann was the proud co-owner of Helen and Sissie's Taxi Company in Washington, NJ, which she operated for many years with her mother, serving her community with dedication and care. A devout Catholic, she was a faithful member of St. Mary's Assumption Church in Hackettstown, NJ where her faith and generosity were evident to all who knew her.
Marenann had a passion for gardening and took great joy in decorating her property with seasonal displays that brought delight to her neighbors and loved ones. Her creativity and love for nature were a testament to her vibrant and caring spirit. Marenann also had an extensive collection of salt and pepper shakers that she loved collecting.
She is survived by her loving daughter Christina and her husband Jefre Elrod Jr. from Blairstown, NJ. Her cherished grandchildren Jonathan Smith from Blairstown, NJ and Katelyn Smith who is serving in the United States Army. Both of whom she adored more than anything in this world, and several beloved nieces, nephews and countless cousins. She also leaves behind Carlos "Johhny" Barroso from Phillipsburg, NJ who was her mother's longtime companion.
Marenann was predeceased by her parents, her devoted husband John "Butch" Dowhanik, and her brother Raymond "Smoke" Peters.
Family and friends are invited to celebrate Marenann's life during visitation on Saturday, February 1, 2025, from 9:00 to 11:00 AM at Warren Hills Memorial Home, 234 West Washington Ave., Washington, NJ 07882. A Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 12:00 PM at St. Mary's Assumption Church, Hackettstown, NJ. Interment will take place at Greenwich Cemetery, 15 Greenwich Church Road, Stewartsville, NJ 08886.
Celebration Of Life Luncheon will be held after Interment at Franklin Township Fire department (Asbury Fire department ) 410 Old Main St Asbury, NJ 08802
