Marae Smith

Marae B. Smith, 94, of Washington Borough, NJ, passed away peacefully at home on Thursday, July 15, 2010 . Born: November 22, 19 15 in Stroudsburg , PA she was a daughter of the late Robert and Edna Bowlby. Personal: She lived in Stroudsburg and graduated in Stroudsburg High School , class of 1932, until moving to Washington in 1942. Marae was predeceased by her husband, Madison B. Smith. She was a telephone operator for NJ Bell Telephone in Washington for over 25 years, retiring in 1976. She was a member of the Telephone Pioneers of America; she enjoyed knitting and needlepoint. Survivors: Her loving daughter Connie Allen of Washington; two nieces, Winona Wagner and her husband Roger, and Barbara Fleming; four great-nieces and -nephews; five great-great-nieces and -nephews. In addition to her husband, she was predeceased by a nephew Skip Fleming. Services: Visitation will be held 10 to 11 a.m. Tuesday, July 20, 2010 at Warren Hills Memorial Home, 234 West Washington Avenue , Washington , NJ with the funeral service to follow at 11 a.m. with Rev. James Scovell officiating. Burial will be in Prospect Cemetery , East Stroudsburg , PA. Memorials: In lieu of flowers, memorials in Marae's name may be made to Skip Fleming Scholarship Fund, 40 East Church Street
