Mae C. Shiffert, 89, of Washington, died Tuesday, Sept. 14, 2004 in Brakeley Park Care Center. Born: Aug. 14, 1915 in Harmony, a daughter of the late Ernest and Henrietta Myrtle Stires Cornish. Personal: Her husband, Alvin M., died in 1985 She owned and operated Shear Beauty & Dot's Beauty Shop in Washington. She was a beautician for 62 years. Mae graduated from Hackettstown High School, class of 1934 and she attended the Beauty Academy in New York. She also attended Churchmen's Business School. She was a volunteer hairdresser at Warren Haven Nursing Home. She was an avid reader, loved to cook, enjoyed gardening, genealogy and was a history buff of Warren County. Mae was a life long resident of the Washington area. Memberships: She was a member of United Methodist Church in Washington. She was a 60 year member of the Order of the Eastern Star. Mae was a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution. Survivors: her son, Alvin M. of Missouri; a sister, Carol Hankinson of SC; two granddaughters, Cara and Mindy of Missouri; three nieces, Carol Figarra of Michigan, Susan Eovaldi of NC, Nancy Noel of Greenwich, NJ; three nephews, Walter Hankinson of Greenwich, John Hankinson of Hawaii and Roland Hoffman of Bangor, Pa. Services: Funeral Services will be private. Warren Hills/Ford Memorial, 234 West Washington Ave., Washington is in charge of arrangements. Cremation will take place at H.G. Smith Crematory, Stroudsburg, PA.
