Johanna B. Schooff, 81, of Stewartsville, NJ, and formerly of Union, NJ, passed away peacefully at her home on June 19, 2025, surrounded by her loving family.
Born on September 28, 1943, in Queens, New York, Johanna was the daughter of the late Wilhelm Schooff and Helen Schooff (née Pekearo). She was a proud graduate of Long Island City High School and Marymount College. Johanna dedicated many years of her career as a cosmetic purchasing manager for Adrien Arpel, retiring in 2003.
A woman of many passions, Johanna loved animals—especially her cats, dogs, and watching the eagle cams—and was an avid watcher of crime and courtroom television. Whether it was Law and Order, Forensic Files, or her daily dose of Judge Judy, she was always tuned in. A lifelong Yankees fan, she rarely missed a game.
Johanna found deep meaning in giving back to others. She was actively involved in the Shawl Ministry at the women's prison in Clinton, NJ, where she brought comfort and warmth to many through her caring heart and generous spirit.
She is survived by her devoted daughter, Christine Rush, and her husband Jason; her cherished grandsons, Zachary and Alexander Rush; and her loving siblings, Wilhelmina "Cookie" Shaw, Alwine Schooff, Richard Schooff, and Joseph Schooff. She is also survived by her sister-in-law Shonie Schooff; her beloved nieces and nephews, Andrea and her husband Chris, Brandon and his wife Denise, Scott and his wife Kelly, Lorelei and her husband John, Richard, and Erika and her husband David; and her great-nieces and nephews, Ryan, Elena, Nicholas, Matthew, and Samantha. She is also remembered by her stepdaughter, Linda Christianson.
In addition to her parents, Johanna was predeceased by her brothers, Herbert and John Schooff; her brothers-in-law, Ronald Shaw and Frank Makowski; her sister-in-law, Miriam Schooff; and her longtime companion, Clement Johnson.
Johanna will be remembered for her warmth, her humor, her fierce loyalty to her family and friends, and her love of animals and justice.
Family and friends may pay their respects on Monday, June 23, 2025 from 4:00 to 7:00 PM at Warren Hills Memorial Home, 234 West Washington Ave., Washington, NJ 07882. A mass of Christian burial will take place at Sacred Heart Church in Highland Falls, NY on Tuesday, June 24, 2025 at 12:00 PM. Interment at Eagle Valley Cemetery will immediately follow.
