Joan M. Melberger

Joan M. Melberger, 93, a longtime resident of Oxford, NJ, passed away peacefully on March 29, 2026, at Colonial Manor in Mansfield Township.

Joan was born on March 13, 1933, in Anderson, NJ, to the late Leonard and Margaret “Mowder” Coleman. She graduated from Hackettstown High School, Class of 1951. Joan was employed as a banker for more than 25 years with Hackettstown National Bank and Washington Trust Company until her retirement in 1996.

Joan enjoyed cooking and baking and adored her family. She especially cherished the time she spent with her grandchildren.

Joan is survived by her children, Carol Hart (Gary), Lynn Gallagher, Susan Tillou, Jeff Smith (Lynn), and John Smith (Kim); her stepson, Jeff Melberger (Lisa); nine grandchildren; fourteen great-grandchildren; and one great-great-granddaughter.

She was predeceased by her beloved husband, Frederick Melberger, in 2022; her siblings, Donald Coleman and Doris Petty; and her stepdaughter, Barbara Shields.

Family and friends may pay their respects on Thursday, April 2, 2026, from 10:00 to 11:30 AM at Warren Hills Memorial Home, 234 W. Washington Ave., Washington, NJ 07882. A funeral service celebrating Joan’s life will begin at 11:30 AM at the funeral home. Interment will follow at Hillside Cemetery in Oxford, NJ.
