Listen to Obituary

Henry L. Meltzer, age 85, passed away peacefully on July 8, 2026, at Hunterdon Medical Center.

Through his long rich life, Henry took advantage of all the world had to offer. Growing up in Santiago, Chile and Great Neck, New York, Henry developed a love for sports, architecture, arts, music, and travel. He played varsity soccer for Columbia University, received his architecture degree from the University of Pennsylvania and, following his service with the Army Corps of Engineers, began his long career in architecture in New York. Henry enjoyed a distinguished architectural career and retired in 2024 from his partnership with Stonehill & Taylor Architects, P.C. in New York City.

Henry's life became fuller when he met Rosemary Kent, his lifelong love until her death in 2022. Henry and Rosemary became a fixture of their Soho, New York neighborhood until they moved to their loving community of Asbury, New Jersey to raise cashmere goats and become part of the fabric of Asbury. Henry and Rosemary were world travelers, with wonderful friends across the country. Together they took great pleasure in collecting art, antiques, and dear friends. Throughout his life in Asbury, Henry was committed to serving Asbury, Franklin Township, and the Watershed, most recently helping lead the Franklin Township Land Use Board.

Henry loved his family and enjoyed spending time with them, sharing his stories of his multiple travels and experiences with them. Henry will be remembered by all whose lives he touched by his brilliance, warmth, belief in human and civil rights, and acceptance of people.

Henry is survived by his loving sister, Susan and her husband, Carl; nieces, Amy and Jenna; nephews, Robert and Jonathan; and sister-in-law, Gloria.

Henry was born on March 6, 1941, in New York, New York, the son of the late Samuel Israel Meltzer and Frieda Meltzer (née Schoener). In addition to his parents, Henry was predeceased by his beloved wife, Rosemary Kent Meltzer, who passed away in 2022, and by his older brother, Joel Meltzer, who passed away in 2018.
