Elizabeth M. " Betty " Smith, 94 of Asbury , NJ., passed away peacefully surrounded by family on October 30 , 2025. She was born May 5, 1931in Hampton, NJ to the late James and Ella " nee Reed " Fritts. Betty, known by many as" MUMMUM" , was a proud graduate of Hampton High School, class of 1948. Following her graduation, she took a job at the Asbury Graphite office and after meeting her husband, Harry at the roller rink she was a strong dedicated farm wife of 50 yrs. of hard work and bookkeeping skills. She was a member of the Asbury Methodist Church and belonged to the Asbury Vol. Fire Company Ladies Aux. She served as a dispatcher for the fire dept. For 25 yrs..
Betty's hobbies included bowling, doing crafts, collecting antiques, taking photos ... " Just one more " . Especially decorating cakes for various occasions. At picnics she was famous for her brownies. Her favorite hobby was spending time with her family. She took great pride in cooking big meals and hosting family gatherings. She was very well known for her " farmer breakfasts "and extended the invitation well beyond family. Her love for her family and friends , commitment to her community and caring nature touched the lives of many.
Betty is survived by her son, Richard L. Smith and his wife , Cheryl of Asbury. Three grandchildren , Doug Smith and his wife , Karen of Asbury , Jennifer Smith of Hampton , NJ , and Daniel Willis and his wife , Nancy of Asbury, NJ . As well as 8 great grandchildren and 4 great, great children.
In addition to her parents , Betty was predeceased by her beloved husband , Harry, her companion , Willis, infant son Greg C. Smith, brother Richard Fritts and daughter Gayle F. Willis, whom she desperately missed.
Family and friends may pay their respects on Friday, Nov. 7, 2025 , 10:30 AM to 11:30 AM at the Warren Hills Memorial Home, located at 234 W. Washington Ave , Washington NJ . A service celebrating Betty's life will begin at 11:30 AM in the funeral home. Interment will follow at the Musconetcong Valley Cemetery in Hampton NJ.
In lieu of flowers , donations may be sent to the Asbury Methodist Church, and Franklin Township Rescue Squad.
