Bernice A Seifert

Bernice A. Seifert, 95, of Asbury, NJ, passed away peacefully on March 8, 2025. Born on February 9, 1930, in Phillipsburg, NJ, she was the daughter of the late Sidney and Mary "Frey" Alpaugh II.


Bernice graduated from Washington High School in the Class of 1948 and went on to earn her degree in Industrial Arts from Trenton Junior College. A lifelong resident of Asbury, NJ, she built her life around family, community, and meaningful work.


In 1953, Bernice married her soulmate, Ralph Seifert, with whom she shared 70 wonderful years of marriage until his passing in 2023. Bernice enjoyed a fulfilling career as a draftsperson for H.K. Elo Consulting Engineers, retiring in 1995. Earlier in her life, she also worked for General Electric and Baker Chemical.


Outside of her professional life, Bernice found joy in cooking and watercolor painting. She was a devoted member of the Asbury United Methodist Church and the BYKOTA circle, where she found purpose and friendship.


Bernice is lovingly remembered by her children, Debora Smith (Gerald) and Mark Seifert; her sister, Arletta Smith; her grandchildren, Melissa Mauricio and Alan Smith; and her great-grandchildren, Elijah Mauricio, Emily Mauricio, and Annalyse Smith. In addition to her parents and her husband Ralph, Bernice was predeceased by her siblings, Donald Alpaugh, Sidney Alpaugh III, and Eleanor Merrill, as well as her grandson, Jason Smith.


A graveside service to honor Bernice's life will be held on Friday, March 28, 2025, at 11:00 AM at the Asbury Methodist Church Cemetery, 455 Old Main St., Asbury, NJ 08802.
