Barbara Ann Whitney

Barbara Ann Whitney, 92, a lifelong resident of Belvidere, NJ passed away peacefully on June 22, 2023 at Columbia Cottage Assisted Living in Wyomissing, PA. Barbara was born on March 15, 1931 in Belvidere, NJ to the late Marvin H. and Grace (Kinney) Van Kirk.

Barbara was a graduate of Belvidere High School class of 1949. She then attended Churchman's Business School in Easton, PA. Her loving husband Henry passed away in 2016. Barbara was employed as a secretary for the Belvidere School district for many years before her retirement in 1993. Previously, she worked for the First National Bank of Belvidere and the Family Guidance Center. She was a member of the Belvidere High School Alumni Association and the Belvidere High School Hall of Fame Committee. Barbara belonged to the Belvidere United Methodist Church, where she sang in the church choir for several years. She also sang for several years with Musical Arts in Easton, PA. Barbara was a past den mother for the Belvidere Cub Scouts and a past member of the Belvidere Ambulance Corps Auxiliary. She enjoyed jigsaw and crossword puzzles, reading, knitting, cross-stitch, and watching NASCAR races.

Barbara is survived by a daughter, Sharon Rahman and her husband Ata; a son Steven Whitney and his wife Holly, grandchildren Jared Whitney (Marisa), Jillian Pearson (Eric), Shaun Behn, James Whitney (Sarah) and Zachariah Rahman, ten great-grandchildren, and all the people who lovingly knew her as "Grammy," including Humair and Mehar Kirmani, Tariq and Robin Bokhari and family, and Bakhtiar Shah and family.

A graveside service will be celebrated on Wednesday June 28, 2023 at 11:00 AM at the Belvidere Cemetery. In lieu of flowers donations may be made in Barbara's name to Shriner's Hospital, Disabled American Veterans, or the Belvidere Ambulance Corps.
