Anthony “Tony” Galle, 84, of Washington, New Jersey, passed away peacefully on May 22, 2026. Born on June 13, 1941, to the late John and Catherine Galle, Tony lived a life rooted in family, hard work, tradition, and pride in his heritage.
A graduate of Bound Brook High School, Tony proudly served his country in the United States Army Reserves before dedicating many years as a police officer in Piscataway, New Jersey, where he faithfully protected and served his community. In addition to his years in law enforcement, he was a successful businessman who owned and operated Hampton Nursery and Garden Center as well as Anthony’s Pasta House in Hampton, New Jersey.
Tony was extremely proud to have been born on St. Anthony’s Day and cherished his deep Italian roots tracing back to Calabria. A true handyman, Tony continued building decks well into his 80s, always keeping busy with a project or lending a helping hand. He had a passion for gardening and especially enjoyed growing watermelon, sunflowers, tomatoes, peppers, and eggplant. He also loved doo-wop music, singing karaoke, and sharing laughter with family and friends. Known for his cooking, Tony took special pride in making Pizza, Zeppoles and his famous meatballs, lovingly made with his secret ingredient — raisins.
Above all, Tony was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle and friend. He is survived by his beloved wife of 60 years, Barbara Galle, née Grmek; his children, Cynthia Rose Maiella and her companion William "Billy" Border, Anthony Michael Galle and his wife April Galle, Brian Thomas Galle, and Joseph Matthew Galle and his wife Kelly; his cherished grandchildren, Natalie Christina, Joseph Jr., Dustin Alexander, and Bethany Mae; his sister, Dolores Griguoli as well as nearly 100 nephews and nieces—he was affectionately known as “the funny uncle.”
In addition to his parents, he is predeceased by his brothers Frank, Dominick, Ralph, John Jr. and Richard Galle and his sisters Rose Galle, Carmela Mignella, Mary Tomaro, Frances Cataldo, Elizabeth Pranzatelli, Helen Deluca and Angelina Holeva.
Family and friends may pay their respects on Friday, May 29, 2026, from 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at Warren Hills Memorial Home, 234 West Washington Ave., Washington, NJ 07882. A service celebrating Tony’s life will be held in the funeral home at 1:00 p.m. Burial at Saint Ann Roman Catholic Cemetery in Hampton will immediately follow.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests memorial donations be made to Barbara Galle to assist with future living expenses and support during this difficult time. Your generosity, prayers, and acts of kindness are deeply appreciated by the family.
