Alexander S. Groves

Alexander S. Groves, 97, life-long resident and WWII Veteran, of Washington, N.J. passed away peacefully at home on March 6, 2021. He was born on February 26, 1924, the third child of the late Alexander J. and Evangeline (Titus) Groves. A graduate of Washington High School's 1943 Class and one who diligently served in the U.S. Navy during World War II. He was primarily employed by Lehigh Foundry, Easton, Pa. as a Furnace Operator and Moulder for 20 plus years, retiring in 1988. Afterwards, he worked for Jersey Strand & Cable of Washington in their shipping and receiving department. Alexander was blessed being very creative and mechanically inclined. He loved fixing things and was good at it; whether cars, plumbing, electrical work, or carpentry. He liked being precise. Some of his favorite past-times included gardening, listening to various genres of music, especially Big Bands, nature shows, and sharing stories of days gone by. Survived by his beloved wife and "soulmate" of 72 years, Dorothy M. (Clarke) Groves; daughter, Patricia (James) Benton; son, Alexander; sisters, Alice Thompson & Evelyn Jones; brother, David (Irene) Groves; 6 grandchildren & 3 great-grandchildren; special friend, Charlie Wright. He was predeceased by 3 sisters, Joyce Dorsey, Mary Johnson, & Evangeline Swint. Funeral Services will be held at Faith Discovery Church, 33 Brass Castle Rd., Washington on Tuesday, March 16, 2021.
