Helen. C. Strunk, of Washington Township, Warren County, passed away quietly in her sleep in the early morning of December 22, 2009 . She had recently celebrated her 91st birthday.
Born: In New York City on December 18, 19 18, she was a daughter of the late Henry and Anna Britz.
Personal: She moved to Washington Township in 1926 and attended a one room school house on Little Philadelphia Road. That is where she met her future husband Jim. A graduate of Washington High School in 1936, she attended Jersey City Medical School and received her RN. Helen worked at Newton Memorial Hospital before marrying the love of her life, on June 7, 19 41. During World War II she traveled extensively through out the United States following her husband from base to base as he trained to be a B24 bomber pilot. After the war she returned home to raise two sons. During the 1950’s she became active in local community affairs. She encouraged her husband Jim, and long time friend Phil Friese to start the Washington Township Youth Association and they organized many activities to help the Association grow. She was active in helping run the local community pool and was a Den mother. During the 1970’s she returned to nursing, working for both Washington Township and Washington Boro at different times as the school nurse. She enjoyed camping along the Delaware with family and friends. In her later years she became an active bird watcher from her “window on the world”. Helen enjoyed reading and flowers.
Memberships: Helen attended Summerfield Methodist Church.
Survivors: her husband, James Edward of 67 years; sons, James Edward Strunk II and this wife Diane, of Everton, Missouri, Richard Jeffrey Strunk of Washington Township, New Jersey; grandson, James Raymond Strunk and his wife Kim, of Raleigh, North Carolina; and a great-grand daughter, Jaycee Dawn Strunk.
Services: The funeral service and interment will be private. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Warren Hills Memorial Home, 234 W. Washington Ave , Washington NJ 07882 .
Memorials: In lieu of flowers contributions can be made to Washington Township Youth Association, P.O. Box 163 Washington NJ 07882.
