Warren
Rothenberger, 82, of Belvidere, NJ, died Monday, January
31, 2005 in Warren Hospital, Phillipsburg, NJ.
Born: On March 6, 1922 in New York City, he
was a son of the late Joseph and Anna VonElling Rothenberger.
Personal: His beloved wife, Helen, died earlier.
Previously, Warren lived in Honesdale, Pa, and Warren, NJ.
Warren was a Cinematographer, and former vice president of NYC
Local 644, International Alliance of Theatrical Stage Employees,
IATSE. He had a 42 yearlong career as a cinematographer, where
he worked on many award winning commercials, TV movies, and
major motion pictures, before retiring in 1987.
He was an Army veteran of World War II. Serving as a combat
cameraman, he received a Bronze Star for his actions under fire
crossing the Mosel River. Warren filmed major battles in the
European Theatre from Normandy, across France, Luxembourg, Belgium,
Czechoslovakia, Italy, Austria, and Germany, earning five Battle
Stars. He was featured in the Emmy Award winning 1997 National
Geographic Documentary, “Combat Cameraman” and was profiled
in the book, “Patton’s GI Photographers.”
Memberships: He was a member of St. Luke’s Lutheran Church in
Washington, NJ. Warren was also a member of the Combat Cameramen’s
Association and the Sons of Norway, Bernt Balchen Lodge, Honesdale,
Pa.
Survivors: He is survived by two daughters,
Jann McAleer and her husband, John of Pittstown, NJ, Lisa McAleer
and her husband, Jim of Stewartsville, NJ; five grandchildren,
John, Jr., Kristina, Andrew, James, Jr., and Karl; and one great
grandchild, Cody. A son, Warren, Jr., died earlier.
Services: Funeral services will be on Thursday
at 2 p.m. in the church, with the Pastor Karol Van Wylfen officiating.
Cremation will be private. There will be no calling hours. The
Warren Hills/Ford Memorial Home, 234 West Washington Ave., Washington,
