George E. Polachak, 71, of Washington, NJ, died Tuesday, March 25, 2008 at Overlook Hospital, Summit, NJ.
Born: On July 9, 1936, in Hazelton, Pa, he was a son of the late George and Helen Polachak.
Personal: He and his loving wife, Lee, were married for 13 years. His first wife, Gloria, died in 1990.
A resident of Washington, NJ for 50 years, he had previously resided in Hazelton, Pa,. He proudly served in the Marine Corps during peacetime.
George was employed as an operating engineer with M&M Mars, Hackettstown, NJ, for 38 years, retiring in 1996. He enjoyed spending time with his family. He will be missed by all who knew him.
Memberships: He was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, Washington, NJ. George was a past member and past Chief of the Washington Township Fire Department, serving for 43 years. He was also a member of the Washington Township 461 Firemen’s Relief Association.
Survivors: In addition to his wife Lee, he is survived by two sons, George P. and his wife Mary Ellen of Washington Township and Gerald of Palmer Township. He is also survived by Lee’s daughters, Lisa Tonkin and her husband Harold, Denise Allen and her husband Steven, their children, Teresa, Abigail, Rebekah, and Steven, all of Stroudsburg; three sisters, Helen Musolino of McHenry, Ill., Joan Cooper of Washington Township, and Sylvia Nernio of St. Charles, Ill.; a brother, Thomas N. of Washington, NJ; four grandchildren, Jason, Jeromy, George N. and Kristina, and three great-grandchildren, Anthony, Mackenzie and Braden.
A brother-in-law, Vernon Cooper, and a daughter-in-law, Twila Polachak, both died earlier.
Services: Visitation will be Friday from 12 to 3 p.m. and 6 to 9 p.m. with a Firemen’s Service at 7:30 p.m., all held at the Warren Hills Memorial Home, 234 West Washington Avenue, Washington, NJ 07882. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Saturday at 10 a.m. with Father Blaise Baran officiating at the church, 200 Carlton Avenue, Washington, NJ. Burial will be in St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to the Warren Hills Memorial Home, Washington, NJ.
Memorials: In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Washington Township Fire Department, P.O. Box 307, Washington, NJ 07882; or to the Huntington’s Disease Society of America, 505 Eighth Avenue, Suite 902, New York, NY 10018.
