James T. Oross Sr., 66, of Hackettstown, N.J., died Tuesday, December 30, 2008, at his daughter’s house in Washington, N.J.
Born: May 29, 1942 in Raritan Township, he was a son of the late William & Rita Marie Oross.
Personal: He had previously lived in Washington for 20 years.
Jim was a senior fisheries worker for 22 years with the State of New Jersey Division of Fish & Game, and was well known in assisting with fishing derbies throughout the state. Jim was also a retired deputy game warden with the state. He proudly served in the Navy during the Vietnam War. He was an all-around sportsman and enjoyed spending time with family and friends.Memberships: He was an associate member of Fraternal Order of Police Lodge 18, a member of Carteret Police Benevolent Association Lodge 47, and New Jersey Conservation Officers Association; and a life member of the Loyal Order of Moose in Edison Lodge 1978.
Survivors: His wife Deborah of Hackettstown; three sons, James T. Oross, Jr. of Binghamton, N.Y., Robert W. Partridge and his wife Jessica of Easton, and James F. Kircher of Hackettstown; three daughters, Tracy Oross and Tammy Oross, both of Binghamton, N.Y., and Barbara L. Kircher and her husband Robert L. Wiseburn Jr. of Washington, with whom he resided; three brothers, Joe Oross of Little Egg Harbor, N.J., Michael Oross of Texas and John Oross of Edison, N.J.; four sisters, Betty Griffin of Forked River, N.J., Rosie Oross of Florida, Pat Spearnock and Debbie Mullan, both of Edison; six grandchildren Kayla, Gavin, Kyle, Jessica, Stephen and Shannon; many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a brother William.
Services: A visitation will be held 6:00 to 9:00 p.m. Monday, January 5, 2009 with American Legion services at 8:00 p.m. in the Warren Hills Memorial Home, 234 West Washington Avenue, Washington. Funeral services will be held 12:00 noon Tuesday, January 6, 2009 , in Warren Hills Memorial Home, with Pastor Karol Van Wulfen officiating. Cremation will be private. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to the Warren Hills Memorial Home, 234 West Washington Avenue, Washington.

He was the best at what he did, especially when it came to conducting fishing derbies for kids. As a conservation officer for 30 years I had the privledge of watching Jim make so many kids (and adults) excited as well as educating them.
