John B. Hughes, Jr., 52, of Washington, NJ, passed away August 27, 2011 , peacefully at home after a yearlong courageous battle with acute myeloid leukemia.
Born: February 5, 1959 in Patterson, NJ, he was a son of the late John Hughes, Sr. and Joanne Hughes of Lake Hopatcong, NJ.
Personal: He lived in Washington, NJ for 15 years, previously he lived in Roxbury. He worked at Pettit Marine Paint in rockaway, NJ in the shipping and receiving department, for 30 years. John was a graduate of Roxbury High School, class of 1977. John was a dedicated fan of the NY Yankees and the NY Giants. He liked to listen to Heavy Metal Music. John was an avid reader and reading was one of his favorite past times.
Survivors: his loving wife of 12 years, Cathy; two sons, Chris Steglic of Newton, NJ and Matt Andrews of Washington, NJ; his mother, Joanne Hughes of Lake Hopatcong, NJ; a brother, Jeff Hughes and his wife Dana of Lake Hopatcong, NJ; and a sister, Janett Hughes-Rougeau of Vermont; a sister-in-law, Janet Hughes of East Hanover; his Aunt Sue and Uncle Tom Broadbent of Florida; many loving nieces, nephews and cousins.
John is predeceased by his father, John Sr. and a brother, Joseph.
Services: Visitation, Saturday, September 3, 2011 3 to 7 p.m. at the Warren Hills Memorial Home, 234 West Washington Ave., Washington, NJ 07882. A memorial service will be held Saturday, September 3, 2011 at 7 p.m. at the Warren Hills Memorial Home, 234 West Washington Ave., Washington, NJ 07882. Cremation was private.
